This workshop for social workers, health care practitioners, and pre-vet and therapeutic recreation practitioners explores animal assisted therapy (AAT) as a therapeutic intervention in a variety of healthcare and educational settings. Today, animals of all sorts can be found in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, and long-term care facilities, as well as other sites. These animals contribute to the health and well-being of people in many physical, social, and psychological ways. This day is devoted to understanding the benefits, best practices, and current strategies of this growing phenomenon through discussion, video, and guest speakers.
